Firefighter Screenings
Event Details
The California Firefighter Skin Cancer Coalition is a group comprised of CalDerm, the Andy Valenta Melanoma Foundation, and the Firefighter Cancer Support Network. They organize skin cancer screenings for fire departments across the entire state, and have screened close to 1,000 firefighters within the past year!
Firefighter occupational cancer is the leading cause of line-of-duty deaths in the fire service. The Andy Valenta Melanoma Foundation is a SoCal nonprofit, founded by Caylie Valenta, whose husband was a local firefighter who lost his battle with melanoma at the age of 33. We are seeking Dermatologists, Resident Dermatologists, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Medical Students, and Non-Medical Volunteers to assist with screenings of HUNDREDS of firefighters.
