MISSIONTo develop and support initiatives that enable CalDerm members and California dermatologists to engage with their local communities in meaningful ways that promote skin health and education throughout the state. At the heart of our efforts is the desire to empower Californians with the knowledge and resources they need to protect their skin health. We collaborate with a diverse range of community organizations, schools, healthcare centers, and local authorities to bring dermatologic care and education to all corners of the state. By addressing public health needs through education, awareness campaigns, and free screenings, we aim to make a lasting impact on community health and wellness. |
Our ValuesWe believe community engagement is a vital expression of our commitment to education, advocacy, and equitable access to dermatologic care for all Californians. Our core values guide every initiative we undertake, ensuring that we remain focused on the well-being of the people we serve. Community engagement fosters stronger, healthier communities by: |
Promoting Education: Through various outreach programs, we share expert knowledge about skin health, skin cancer prevention, sun safety, and other dermatologic conditions. Our goal is to equip individuals with the tools and information they need to take charge of their skin health. |
Ensuring Equitable Access: We are dedicated to breaking down the barriers that prevent people from accessing essential dermatologic care. Whether through local clinics, free screening events, or partnerships with community organizations, we are committed to providing care to those who need it most.
|
To expand access to dermatologic care and education through community engagement.
Looking ahead, our vision remains rooted in the principle that access to dermatologic care and education is a fundamental right for all. We see a future where every Californian, no matter where they live or their socio-economic background, has the opportunity to receive the dermatologic care they deserve.
Through ongoing engagement, we aim to create a more informed public, where people of all ages and backgrounds have the knowledge to care for their skin and recognize the signs of skin cancer early. Our outreach efforts play a pivotal role in ensuring that dermatologic care is available to underserved communities and that skin health becomes a priority for all.
Key Programs and InitiativesThe Community Outreach Committee is responsible for organizing and supporting a wide range of initiatives that focus on improving skin health and providing access to care: |
Free Skin Cancer Screenings: Our members volunteer to provide free screenings to individuals at risk of skin cancer, helping to detect early signs of the disease. These screenings play a critical role in early intervention, potentially saving lives by diagnosing skin cancer before it progresses.
|
Collaboration with Local Organizations: We partner with non-profits, schools, healthcare organizations, and other community groups to increase access to skin health resources. These collaborations help us extend our reach and connect with underserved populations.

Impacting Communities Across CaliforniaCalDerm’s Community Outreach Committee has had a profound impact in many regions of California. From urban areas to rural communities, our outreach programs have raised awareness of important skin health issues and provided essential care to those in need. Through these initiatives, we've seen firsthand the difference that access to dermatologic care can make. We’ve helped individuals catch early signs of skin cancer, educated families on the importance of sunscreen, and connected underserved communities with dermatologists who can provide ongoing care. Our work continues to expand across California, and we’re committed to finding new ways to engage and support local communities. Whether it’s through larger public health campaigns or small community-based efforts, every action contributes to a greater good—helping people lead healthier lives with healthier skin.
