To advance the interests of California dermatologists and their patients by monitoring legislation, advocating for sound public policy, and engaging with elected officials to shape a healthcare environment that supports high-quality dermatologic care. The Legislative Committee plays a pivotal role in ensuring that California dermatologists and their patients are well-represented in the legislative process. Our committee monitors state and federal policies, evaluates their potential impact on dermatology practice and patient care, and actively advocates for legislation that enhances access to high-quality dermatologic care. By working closely with lawmakers, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders, we aim to influence legislation that directly impacts the dermatology community and the patients we serve. Through consistent advocacy and collaboration, we strive to create a healthcare environment where dermatologists can practice with the support of effective policies, and patients have the access they need to receive the dermatologic care they deserve. |
Our ValuesWe believe advocacy is essential to protecting the practice of dermatology and ensuring access to high-quality care for patients across California. Advocacy is at the core of our committee's work. We are driven by the belief that strong policies not only protect the practice of dermatology but also ensure that patients have equitable access to care. Our values guide our approach to legislative efforts and include: |
Protecting the Practice of Dermatology: We advocate for policies that allow dermatologists to practice medicine effectively, without unnecessary barriers or limitations. This includes addressing issues related to scope of practice, reimbursement rates, and regulations that affect dermatology practices/ |
Ensuring Access to Care: We are committed to ensuring that all Californians, regardless of their location or financial status, have access to quality dermatologic care. This includes fighting against policies that would limit access to care or increase financial burdens on patients.

To shape policies that protect and advance dermatologic care in California.
Our vision for the future is one where dermatology is fully integrated into California’s healthcare system, with policies that support the needs of both practitioners and patients. We envision a landscape where:
Dermatologists are able to deliver care without facing burdensome regulations or financial restrictions.
Patients have access to affordable, high-quality dermatologic care, regardless of their geographic location or socioeconomic background.
Legislative efforts are aligned with the evolving needs of the dermatology community, ensuring that dermatologic issues are represented at all levels of government.
By shaping policies that prioritize the health and well-being of Californians, we aim to create a sustainable, equitable healthcare environment for dermatology practice in the state.
CalDerm PAC: Empowering Political AdvocacyMission: To support CalDerm’s legislative priorities by raising and distributing funds to state-level candidates and elected officials who advance policies that strengthen dermatologic care and serve the interests of California dermatologists and their patients. Effective advocacy requires an integrated approach: lobbying, grassroots engagement, public relations, AND political campaign contributions. That’s where the CalDerm Political Action Committee (PAC) comes in. CalDerm’s PAC allows us to support candidates and elected officials who understand and champion critical dermatology issues. Political contributions play an essential role in ensuring that dermatology has a voice at the state and federal levels, helping us to advocate for policies that benefit both dermatologists and their patients. Here’s how you can help:
Key Areas of FocusThe Legislative Committee is committed to advocating for policies that have a direct and positive impact on the practice of dermatology and the healthcare needs of patients. Some of the key areas we focus on include: |
Scope of Practice: Ensuring that dermatologists can operate within their full scope of practice without limitations or encroachments from other healthcare professions.
| Reimbursement Rates: Working to secure fair reimbursement rates for dermatologic services, which are crucial for the financial sustainability of dermatology practices and the accessibility of care to patients. |
